The American Psychological Association (APA), a national leadership organization dedicated to advancing the creation, communication and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives, has retained Witt/Kieffer to aid in the recruitment of a Chief of Professional Practice (CPP) located in Washington, D.C.

APA is the leading scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States, with more than 115,700 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students as its members.  APA’s mission is driven through encouraging the development and application of psychology in the broadest manner, promoting research in psychology, the improvement of research methods and conditions and the application of research findings, improving the qualifications and usefulness of psychologists by establishing high standards of ethics, conduct, education and achievement, and increasing and disseminating psychological knowledge through meetings, professional contacts, reports, papers, discussions and publications.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CPP supervises and oversees the Practice Directorate and is responsible for major APA programs related to professional practice, such as: clinical and professional practice guidelines; legal, legislative, and regulatory issues impacting practice; and the Center for Psychology and Health.  He/she will be able to conceptualize health care and larger societal trends affecting the practice of psychology and chart a productive path forward for the Association and the profession. The successful candidate will effectively draw upon and connect with science, education, public interest, and other key areas of the Association to promote psychology as an integrated discipline.

APA is seeking candidates with a minimum of ten years postdoctoral experience in professional practice; and a broad knowledge of health care trends, practice models, and emerging challenges and opportunities to help psychology thrive in a changing environment.  Experience within a large organizational environment, particularly in the areas of administrative and financial management, strategic planning, and implementation are essential.
